History

For the past thirty years our organization has supported the growth and development of people with developmental disabilities in our community. We have accomplished so much and have a great deal for which we are very proud. Over these years, the Police and Fire Association for Handicapped Children has been well received by our membership and many of the neighboring communities.

We support systems change and advocate for quality services. We strive to unite police and fire personnel who have family members with special developmental needs and concerns with other family members in order to support one another. Our goal is to ensure the economic, social and educational needs and rights for all people with disabilities.

To keep you informed, we meet regularly and send out periodic mailings about services and events offered through Police & Fire as well as other orgaizations serving people with disabliites. We encourage our members to share their experiences, thoughts, problems and solutions.

The Philadelphia Police and Fire Association for Handicapped Children, Serving People with Special Needs, is a non-profit organization striving to enrich the lives of all people with disabilities and address the unique concerns of their family members who are Police and Fire personnel. Our primary role is, and continues to be, that of an advocacy organization. In an effort to ensure that our advocacy work continues, the Board of Directors is now focusing the Association’s energies and fundraising efforts in several key areas: training, referrals, networking and resources.
